How the greenhouse industry gains from using a stable and appropriate IT system

It’s no easy task to control the climate in greenhouses and, as in every other sector, computers play a crucial role in water regulation and growth, feeding and climate management for the greenhouse industry. The only problem is that, in view of the climate in a greenhouse, a standard system is not suitable. That’s why Microtron and HortiMax are working closely together to deliver the necessary solutions; solutions such as a fanless box and panel PC.

Equipment for greenhouse horticulture

A company that aims to be both effective and successful must select a solution that fits in with its processes, and for installing or modifying control processes evermore greenhouse companies are going for HortiMax. This is not only due to HortiMax’s level of knowledge, it is also because the company has a whole range of specialists at its disposal that can utilise that expertise. When it comes to controlling water regulation and growth, feeding and climate management, HortiMax joined forces with Microtron, a supplier of industrial computers, electronic components and networking equipment.

The fanless box and panel PC

A computer system that needs to control a huge complex of greenhouses must meet a wide range of requirements. In this project the control system had to function in a warm and humid environment but without a fan. In order to check whether the two installed systems – a fanless box and a panel PC – meet the requirements, Microtron thoroughly inspects the equipment and runs pre-load and specially modified BIOS. Microtron’s buffer stock means an additional guarantee, so if extra systems are required they can be delivered within a day or two.

Optimal conditions

The stability of the system is crucial to the various processes conducted in the greenhouses, because huge losses can be incurred when a system fails. A solution that fits perfectly can pay back its investment through optimal growth conditions, including the correct quantity of light, temperature, humidity and oxygen levels.

Managing risks

The close partnership between Microtron and HortiMax has resulted in an efficient supply chain with the focus on customer satisfaction. New solutions are embraced and, as soon as they can add value, they are launched on the market. That is why a forward-thinking greenhouse horticulture company would gain a great deal by exploring what the two partners have developed. After all, in a world where just a few percentage points can make all the difference, nobody wants to run the risk of using poorly functioning system equipment.
